Saint-Martin Church and Saint Sebastian Statue

The church is in neo-Gothic style and was rebuilt in 1882.The showpiece of the church coming out of the basilica is the altar Saint-Sébastien, made around 1750 by Guillaume Evrard (who continued the work of Delcourt) and bought by Saint-Hubert in 1807. This marble altar from Rochefort (of which you will find the text of the classification, drawn up by Bernard Wodon, a native of Wallonia) was originally located in the most beautiful of the choir chapels, behind the main altar. The main attractions are:* from the outside:- the very high church tower- above the entrance door, the stone relief of Saint Martin the soldier, who gives half of his clamy to a poor man in whose eyes he recognises the risen Christ.* Inside:- 3 naves supported by 12 columns representing the 12 apostles- in the choir: 3 original stained-glass windows- a positive organ from a Brussels salon, bought in 1894- pulpit with pictures of Saint Peter and Paul, 2 Benedictine fathers and the 4 evangelists- the confessionals with beautiful statuettes- the communion bench with which the altar where the priest celebrates was made.(M. Denis, abbot)This veritable jewel of the sculpture of Liege is the work of Guillaume Evrard, artist at the service of the Bishops Princes of Liege (beginning of the 18th century). It adorned the personal altar of the Bishop of Saint Hubert. In 1797, the revolutionaries of Liege sold it. Since 1803, it can be admired at the church of Saint Martin in Awenne(Source : Maison du Tourisme du Pays de Saint-Hubert)
