History of the Grand Duchess

The Promenade de la Grande Duchesse runs from the Promenade des Français to Marteau. It was completed in 1870 and bears the name of Élisabeth-Angélique de Montmorency-Bouteville (1627-1695), Duchess of Châtillon. A royal favourite, she was widowed in 1649. Mistress of the Duc de Nemours, then of Condé. She married the Duke of Mecklenburg Schwerin in 1664.
